We invite you to join us in knitting something small in size, large in meaning!

Burial clothing is needed for preemie and full term babies.
Knitting for little ones who's time on earth was short can be sad,
but very rewarding.

Many parents will only get to dress their sweet child once.
Providing outfits, hand knit with love, during a time when shopping for outfits is difficult or impossible, can bring great comfort and solace.
Parents will know that others care and are thinking of them.

This site is dedicated to LucyBug as way for people to get together for a common purpose and encourage each other in this work.

The Incredible Feats of Lucy

Tiny infant weighed by scale
That measures not your size
Lying there so sick and frail
A giant in my eyes

A step you've never taken
No words to make a speech
Nor written dissertation
But Oh! how far your reach

Fingers small and fragile
Can't hold a pen nor sword
Yet brought so many to their knees
To pray unto the Lord

Although you're no professor
Can't write, can't read, don't speak
You've taught a brilliant lesson
On what in life to seek

You're teaching mothers everywhere
To set aside their chores
Hold their children closer
Cherish them much more

I'll treasure life's swift moments
Each and every part
Because a child named Lucy
Was born and touched my heart

So dear Lucy, Thank you
And though you're very small
I want to stop and tell you
How much you've done for all

Mighty men will toil
Spend years to make their way
Most will not accomplish
What Lucy has with days

This is a very casual knit-along. There aren't many rules or requirements and no deadlines! In fact, you're not even required to knit, you can crochet or even sew your items, and still be part of this! If you aren't able to join for some reason, we'd love it if you'd leave comments at the weblog to encourage us.

For those that choose to take on this knit-along there's a link to instructions for how to join in the header, along with a link to get a button for your webpage or weblog. On the patterns page you will find a few of our own patterns for burial buntings, dresses, hats, and booties. There's also instructions for tiny knitted angel you can include with your outfit to give the parents something that's now a part of their baby to hang onto for years to come, and a size chart and some tips on making these outfits. The links page you'll find several external links to other free patterns put out by others for such a cause. For those that would like to watch the progress of the others, learn more before you join, or would just like to cheer us on there's a weblog where members of the knit along can post their progress to share with others.
